Four Simple Steps To Gain Your First 1000 Facebook Followers

Discover 4 simple steps that will help you gain your first 1000 followers on your Facebook business page.

Starting a Facebook business page from scratch is hard. Like really hard. Even growing an existing page can feel hard. But it’s a critical part of audience building.

You create great content your ideal customer will love. And you want your ideal customer - lots of your ideal customers - to see it. That means gaining more followers.

I started my page, How to Start a Subscription Box, in early 2020. I knew who my ideal customer was. What I didn’t know was how I was going to get them to like my page.

I spent six months basically spinning my wheels and not gaining a ton of followers. At the end of those six months, I took a step back and a close look at what I was doing. And what I wasn’t doing. Then I came up with an action plan to get to 1000 followers before the end of the year.

Getting to 1000 followers is possible. Today I’m sharing four things you can do to reach - and pass - that 1000 follower mark.

1. Post regularly.

Consistency is key.

If you want to build an audience, you have to post consistently.

I realized that I hadn’t been posting regularly on my How to Start a Subscription Box Facebook business page. Sure, I would throw a post or two up each week, but I wasn’t consistent. I didn’t have a plan.

I was doing the bare minimum. And I realized the bare minimum wasn’t going to get me where I wanted to go.

I had to step up my game. So I did. I now post daily - consistently and with intention.

I strongly recommend creating a content plan. This will save you SO MUCH TIME and so much brain power. A content plan works for you and your audience. It takes the guesswork out of creating posts and it lets your audience know what to expect.

Keep your content plan simple. Mondays can be sharing new products, Tuesdays going LIVE to share information or teach something your audience will find valuable or interesting, etc.

Batch schedule your posts inside Meta’s Business Suite. This will keep you on schedule and save you tons of time.

Don’t forget to come back and engage in your posts. Create conversations with followers and engage in the comments. Not only will you start building a connection with the people who comment on your posts, but your engagement will also push your post in front of even more people.

2. Provide content that encourages people to follow.

Posting consistently doesn’t mean posting memes and quotes all day. That is not going to help you attract and connect with the right audience.

Remember the goal of your posts is to gain followers on your page and to connect and engage with the followers you already have.

To increase engagement, I created a variety of post types along with eye-catching graphics that would “stop the scroll.” I started:

  • Asking questions - to engage followers and build community.
  • Sharing blog posts - to reinforce my brand message and provide value.
  • Posting quick tips - to create brand trust and keep an open dialog where all are welcome to participate.
  • Sharing wins of my Launch Your Box members - to allow followers to relate to and see themselves in those posts.

Reach NEW potential followers by creating content that encourages shares. Remember, if someone is an ideal customer, chances are they have friends or family members who would be, too!

Videos and images work great. Ask questions, create polls, and let your audience know you want to hear from them!

3. Create video content.

You know it took me a while to get comfortable going Live. I’ve talked about this a lot and even written about it in this blog post. I had all the fears, doubts, and insecurities you may feel about it. Really - all of them. But… I got over it. Because I understood just how important it was.

Facebook favors Live content. That means more people will see your content and hear your message.

I started going Live once a week on my Facebook business page. That first week, no one was on with me. And that was okay - I expected that. Three weeks in, eight people joined me Live and the very next week my audience jumped to 32. I’d quadrupled my audience in just one week!

When it was time to launch, I created a specific Facebook Live as an “event” in the events section of my business page. This meant a reminder was sent out to my followers an hour before I went Live. I had 290 people show up Live for this event - I was blown away!

Those 290 people who came Live gave my page a lot of juice! So much so that I found myself at 1800 followers a week later.

So what should you do?

Reels.

Short video is huge for visibility and engagement right now. Listen to episode 37 of my podcast - Using Short Video to Build Your Audience for tips, strategies, and suggestions on how to put short video to work for you.

Not all Facebook accounts have reels now. If yours doesn’t, you can share short videos right into your post. You can also repurpose your Instagram reels onto your Facebook business page. Learn more about repurposing reels in this blog post.

4. Run Facebook Page Like Ads.

Running Page Like ads on Facebook is an effective way to introduce yourself and what you do to new audiences.

Page Like ads are simple ads that link to your Facebook business page with a CTA to like your page. The goal of these ads is simply to gain followers.

A Page Like ad can generate hundreds of new followers in a matter of days or weeks depending on your budget.

New and established subscription box owners should consider running Page Like ads. If you’re just getting started, they’re a great way to quickly get your brand in front of potential customers. And established businesses should use them to continue to grow their followers and get in front of new people.

I’ve been running Page Like ads this month with a budget of only $10 a day and have already gained more than 600 new followers as a result! Some of the ladies in my Elevate Mastermind have really focused on running this type of ad and have gained thousands of followers in short periods of time!

I called this post “4 Simple Steps to Gain Your First 1000 Facebook Followers.” Not “4 EASY Steps,” but 4 simple steps. Nothing I’ve recommended is complicated or difficult.

Following these 4 steps helped me reach 1000 followers on my business Facebook page. Continuing to follow them led to reaching - and passing - 10,000 followers in less than two years.

Get consistent, produce relevant, engaging content, get comfortable with video, and put Page Like ads to work for you.
